Overview
The Concept2 SkiErg is the first station in every Hyrox race — 1,000 metres of double-pole skiing motion that loads the lats, triceps, core, and hip flexors simultaneously. Unlike the rower, it’s wall-mounted by default, making it a space-efficient addition to any gym.
Hyrox-Specific Training
In Hyrox, the SkiErg is 1,000 metres. Most athletes target 3:30–5:00 depending on their division. The key is developing a consistent pull rhythm under fatigue — the SkiErg rewards technique far more than brute strength.
Practice pacing by setting a target /500m split on the PM5 and holding it. Train at race pace regularly in the 4–8 weeks before your event.
Technique Notes
Unlike rowing, the SkiErg requires you to initiate the pull with hip hinge, not arm pull. Athletes who treat it as a pure upper-body movement will gas out quickly. Engage the hips first, follow with the core, then the arms. Your score will improve dramatically.
